EMPIRE AIR ANSWERS
Straight answers before the service call.
Common HVAC questions answered in plain language for Indianapolis and Central Indiana homeowners.
01
Repairs & safety
What should I check before calling for HVAC service?
Confirm the thermostat mode and setting, look for a tripped breaker, and check whether the filter is heavily restricted. Do not repeatedly reset a breaker or open equipment panels. If you smell gas, see smoke, or hear a carbon-monoxide alarm, leave and call 911 or the gas utility from a safe place.
Why is my AC running but not cooling?
Poor airflow, a dirty coil, an electrical failure, thermostat trouble, or a refrigerant problem can all cause weak cooling. Temperatures, airflow, controls, and equipment operation need to be tested before the real cause is known.
Why does my furnace keep turning on and off?
Short cycling can come from airflow restrictions, control problems, overheating, ignition trouble, or equipment sizing. Because some causes involve safety controls, repeated shutdowns should be professionally diagnosed.
Is water around my furnace or indoor AC unit normal?
No. Cooling systems produce condensation, but that water should drain safely. Water around the equipment can point to a clogged drain, frozen coil, failed pump, or another drainage problem that deserves attention.
02
Maintenance & comfort
How often should my HVAC system be maintained?
Most homes benefit from cooling maintenance during the warm-weather season and heating maintenance during the heating season. The goal is to check operation, airflow, electrical condition, drainage, and safety before peak demand.
How often should I change my filter?
There is no single schedule for every home. Filter size, pets, dust, remodeling, system runtime, and filter type all matter. Check it monthly at first and replace it when loading begins to restrict airflow.
Why are some rooms hotter or colder than others?
Uneven comfort can come from duct leakage, poor balancing, return-air limitations, insulation, solar gain, equipment sizing, or airflow problems. The best solution depends on what the home and system are actually doing.
Can indoor air quality equipment help with dust or humidity?
Yes, when the product matches the problem. Media filtration can improve particle capture, humidity equipment can help overly dry or damp air, and selected air-cleaning products can support a broader comfort plan.
03
Replacement & planning
Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?
Consider equipment age, repair cost, condition, comfort history, refrigerant type, efficiency, and how long you expect to stay in the home. Empire Air explains the repair path and the replacement path when both deserve consideration.
How much does a new HVAC system cost?
The installed price depends on system type, efficiency, capacity, electrical or duct changes, accessories, installation conditions, and warranty coverage. A useful quote should show the scope and meaningful Good, Better, and Best options—not only one unexplained number.
Do you offer payment options?
Empire Air can discuss available financing paths for qualifying customers. Approval, rate, term, and total cost depend on the provider and applicant, so estimated payments are not an approval or final offer.

Empire Air is based near Indianapolis 46227 and generally serves homes within roughly 25 miles, including Indianapolis, Greenwood, Southport, Beech Grove, Whiteland, Franklin, Bargersville, Plainfield, Avon, and Speedway. Address and scheduling confirmation still apply.
